When I get a glut of something I try to prep it and get it into the freezer before it goes off. Avocado are surprisingly easy to freeze. I also chop and freeze bananas when they are getting too ripe. You can use fresh or frozen ingredients in most smoothie recipes. This yummy berry smoothie recipe uses the celery and avocado I froze last month.
You need to make sure you get a bit of fat and protein in your smoothie to balance the uptake of the fruit sugars by your body. And always squeeze in as many vegetables as you can. In this recipe we have 1/4 avocado which will give you 1 g of protein and 7g of good fat. Also celery and spinach for some extra vegetation. Coconut water provides electrolytes and fruit for flavour.
Here’s the recipe…
Banana berry smoothie
Ingredients:
1/2 an apple chopped
1/2 a banana
Handful of spinach
1/4 frozen avocado – chopped
Handful of chopped frozen celery
Handful of frozen blueberries
Coconut water – about 1/3 cup
Pinch of cinnamon
Instructions:
Whack it all in a blender! Blend for about 3 to 5 minutes. The frozen avocado takes a bit more time to blend. Its quicker with fresh.
I put in enough coconut water for a thickish consistency. You can add a bit more or use some filtered water to thin it down.
You can add a teaspoon of protein or greens powder for a superfood boost or some psyllium powder for extra fibre. Have fun with it 🙂
I’m a big fan!

They are great aren’t they? Just a bit makes it smooth and creamy but you don’t get an avocado flavor.
